This comprehensive packet is chock full of handouts you can copy and share with parents and caregivers when training parents on how to facilitate language at home. The handouts can be a great reference to parents during non-therapy times, when the speech-language pathologist is not available for consultation and can be used as a reminder of the strategies modeled and taught to them previously. In addition, the handouts can also be used for parents whose children do not qualify for speech and language services but who are looking for more strategies to use at home to continue communication development. Each page defines a new strategy, explains the rationale behind using the strategy and provides an example of how to use the strategy. In addition there is a place for “SLP Feedback”, where after observing the parent trial each technique the SLP can jot down a few suggestions, comments, tips, and positive reinforcement to which parents can refer as needed. There is also a place for “Parent Notes” where parents can record successes, questions, and concerns regarding each strategy for further discussion and training with the SLP upon return to therapy.
